In this module Matthias Mellinghaus (Freelance Producer / Line Producer) takes a look at who does what on a film/tv set and discusses the various labour unions involved.

Creating a Safe and Inclusive Set

In this module Elizabeth Reid (Employment and Human Rights Lawyer / Shareholder, Boughton Law Corporation) gives an overview of harassment and bullying in the "me too" era and producer responsibilities in order to keep sets safe and healthy. In this module, you will learn what responsibilities producers have to create a safe, healthy and inclusive set and the repercussions of failing to do so.

Matthias Mellinghaus

Producer and AD

Matthias Mellinghaus started his career in the film industry over 30 years ago after he had finished his rowing career with an Olympic Gold medal. In 1993, Mellinghaus completed the film directing program at the Konrad Wolf Film University in Potsdam, Germany. While based in Berlin, he directed feature-length documentaries for German television and started working as a 1st AD on German independent features. Mellinghaus emigrated to Vancouver in 2001, where he worked as a 1st AD, Production Manager and Line Producer on live-action features. In 2014 Mellinghaus joined Bron Studios first as Head of Production, then as VP Production and was responsible for handling the development and execution of live-action projects. Since 2019, Mellinghaus has worked as a freelance Producer and Line Producer.

Elizabeth Reid

Employment and Human Rights Lawyer, Boughton Law Corporation

Elizabeth Reid is a barrister and solicitor whose legal practice focuses on employment, labour and human rights matters. She has represented clients at every level of court in British Columbia, as well as in proceedings before the BC Human Rights Tribunal, the BC Employment Standards Tribunal, the Workers’ Compensation Board and the Canadian Human Rights Commission. She is regularly consulted for advice on termination packages, employment contracts, union certification drives, wrongful dismissal claims, disciplinary measures, and other issues arising in the workplace. She is the recipient of awards for achievement in employment law and appellate advocacy.
