In this module Lori Massini (Entertainment Lawyer / Creator of Producer Essentials) provides you with an introduction to the various Canadian guilds and unions, including UBCP/ACTRA, DGC and WGC, an overview of the applicable collective agreements, including the common issues producer face and mistakes they make in navigating this tricky landscape.

Know Your Guilds, Part 2

In this module Erin Ray, NPI Entertainment Payroll, gives an overview of the various guild agreements in the US, and provides guidance on calculating residuals.

Lori Massini

Entertainment Lawyer

Lori Massini practices entertainment law, assisting numerous Canadian and American producers and studios with their legal and business affairs needs. Lori has acted as production counsel for original programming for networks such as Nickelodeon, Disney, the Food Network and Discovery. She has extensive experience negotiating contracts for actors, directors, producers and crew, managing employment and labour issues, advising on corporate legal matters and overseeing complex financing arrangements. Lori was formerly Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs for a major film and production studio. She is active in the arts, and is an accomplished dancer and musician. Lori is a co-creator of Producer Essentials.

After graduating from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA, Erin Ray taught high school math and science in Las Vegas, NV, for three years. In 2010 she was approached with the opportunity to utilize her math and interpersonal communication skills as an Account Manager for NPI Entertainment Payroll, Inc. Erin quickly learned all aspects of the business, from initial client contact to final payroll processing, and is highly respected by clients for her attention to detail and her understanding of all payroll requirements from minimum wage, straight time, and overtime requirements to guild and union contract structures.
